SUBJECT : Print Queues With Macintosh
DATE : 7/11/90
OS VERSION :
REVISION :
SHELL VERSION :
QUESTION : We've used Macsetup to establish a printq for a
Laserwriter under AppleTalk. Everything looks good under Macsetup, but under
Pconsole it says there is no server attached to that queue. The ApplePrinter
command says there are no printers connected and the ApplePrinter <name>
start command says "illegal name or maximum number of printers installed."
What are we doing wrong?
ANSWER : The only thing that you really need to watch for is
getting the printer name correct in Macsetup. Check the Qlist and Plist
Console commands for info on the Mac printers and queues. Also make sure to
cover all options in the Install/Configure print services portion of Macsetup.
Pconsole should only be used to view the jobs in MAC queues, all other
functions should be handled by Macsetup.
Things to watch for....jobs going to queue but not being printed, printer
<xxxxx> running off-line. If either or both of these occur, check in this
order: printer name must match EXACTLY, check for bad cables and connections,
bad NL1000 card. Other than that, there is not a lot of things that can go
wrong.
